Prescription Values Explanation
Sphere (SPH) Indicates the strength of your prescription. Distance prescriptions will usually have a (-) before the number. Reading prescriptions will usually have a (+) before the number.
Cylinder (CYL) This indicates the amount of lens power for astigmatism. If nothing appears in this column, either you have no astigmatism, or your astigmatism is very slight that it is not necessary to correct it with your eyeglass lenses.
Axis (AX) This describes the lens meridian that contains no cylinder power to correct astigmatism. This axis is defined with a number from 1 to 180.
Addition (ADD) This is added magnifying power in the lower part of a multifocal lens. It’s used to correct presbyopia which is the inability to focus on close objects.
PD The pupillary distance is the distance between the centers of each pupil (black hole). The PD helps your pupils align with the center of your lenses which improves visual performances.
